Mr. Vishesh C Chandiok

As National Managing Partner of the firm, Vishesh is responsible for the execution of the firm’s strategy and for the stewardship of the firm.

Vishesh leads Grant Thornton’s relationship with some of the most dynamic private, public and multinational clients, and the firm’s services to assist those companies to unlock growth. He has been involved with UK and US IPOs of several Indian businesses, cross-border acquisitions by Indian companies overseas,and has helped global multinationals succeed in India.

For over 15 years, Vishesh has been one of the most vocal proponents of the need for Indian family businesses to adopt formal governance structures as a means to have clarity of direction and ultimately to aid perpetuation of the business.

Vishesh has been the main advisor to the World Bank on their Report on Observance of Standards and Codes (ROSC) on accounting and auditing. In collaboration with large corporates, the audit profession and regulators, this Report set out the country action plan on accounting and auditing for India.

Vishesh is a Chartered Accountant from the ICAEW UK, holds a Masters of Science in Business and Management from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK and has worked for Grant Thornton in UK and in India for over 20 years.

Vishesh works closely with the global Grant Thornton network and its member firms across the world, having served in several global roles and committees, including more recently the development of the Global Brand Promise‘An Instinct for GrowthTM’, the Senior Leadership
Program at SAID Business School Oxford, and in incubating Global Research and Global Delivery
from India for benefit of the network.Vishesh became the youngest member to have been elected to the Global Board of Governors of Grant Thornton International from 1 January 2016, the ultimate decision making authority within the organisation.

Mr. Sunil Kant Munjal

Chairman, Hero Corporate Service P Ltd.

Management responsibilities:Mr. Sunil Kant Munjal is the Chairman of Hero Corporate Service, with business interests in insurance distribution, auto components, steel, real estate, knowledge services and e-commerce. He is also Founder Chairman of BML Educorp Services, a non-for-profit firm that manages BML Munjal University — the Group’s higher education venture. Till recently, he was Joint Managing Director of Hero MotoCorp, India’s largest two wheeler firm.Over the years, he has steered several productivity initiatives for Hero Group companies across domains.

He brought in many cutting edge technologies that allowed group firms to get the benefit of scale at a highly competitive cost.

He introduced modern management practices at Hero Cycles; and his work in the areas of automation and work flow management, significantly increased efficiency levels. He also set up a corporate office within the Hero Group to perform environmental scans, promote new group businesses and enterprises, and help group firms with problem-solving in a variety of areas.

Mr Munjal has regularly worked as the public interface of the Hero Group with external stakeholders, including policy makers, investors and financial Institutions. His strong relationships with key decision makers generated positivity and goodwill, and proved crucial for group firms over the years.

Industry responsibilities: Mr Munjal is currently President of the All India Management Association (AIMA). He is also on the Advisory Board of the UK India Business Council (UKIBC). He was earlier President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and currently chairs the Confederation’s taskforces on Ease of Doing Business in India and Art & Culture.

At CII, he pioneered a unique multi-level partnership know as Rural Business Hubs that involved the central government, village panchayats and members of Indian industry. Based on the One Tambon One Product program of Thailand, RBH projects sought to link Indian corporates with local level bodies (Panchayati Raj Institutions); the idea was to identify and develop rural business clusters, allow rural businesses to move up the economic value chain, and enable industry partners to discover new markets and sourcing options.

Board responsibilities: He sits on the boards of DCM Shriram Consolidated and the Bharti Foundation and serves on the advisory boards of Coca Cola India and the Indian Angels Network Fund. He is on the boards of prestigious educational institutions including Indian School of Business at Hyderabad and Mohali, IIT Ropar, Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), and the University of Tokyo. He also actively supports the Indian government in his capacity as a thought leader, and is on the board of Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) under the Ministry of Company Affairs, and the National Institute of Teachers Technical Training and Research (NITTTR) under the Ministry of Human Resources Development. He is also Chairman of the Management & Entrepreneurship and Professional Skills Council (MEPSC) – a government and industry supported skills initiative that seeks to create a technically and professionally competent workforce.

Mr. Munjal was previously on the boards of Life Insurance Corporation of India Ltd, and PNB Gilts Ltd. He was also Chairman of the Board of Governors of Punjab Technical University.

Government policy responsibilities: Mr. Munjal was a member of the Prime Minister’s Council on Trade & Industry (PMCTI) that advised the Indian Prime Minister on economic issues. He also chaired the Study Group on Skill Development, Training and Workers’ Education constituted under the Second National Commission on Labour Reforms.

He has prepared a number of socio-economic reports in the areas of skill development, vocational training, CSR and tribal development. He made a presentation on skills and training to the PM’s Council, and this triggered many future initiatives on skills. Likewise, his presentations on red tape to the PMO, the commerce and finance ministries activated key policy changes currently being introduced under the Ease of Doing Business initiative.

Mr Munjal was a member of the Narasimham Committee in the 1990s that laid a framework for banking and financial sector reforms in India. The committee’s seminal and path-breaking framework has, over the years, allowed India’s banking and financial sector cope and prosper in a turbulent world. He was also part of a committee set up by the Reserve Bank of India to study the role of directors on Indian banks and financial institutions.

He has been a member of the Taskforce on Indirect Taxes (Kelkar Committee) that wrote the manuscript for simplifying India’s indirect tax system; the Kelkar Committee mooted the concepts of VAT and GST for the first time. Mr Munjal has also been a member of the consultative groups on industry and external sector set up by the Planning Commission.

Besides these roles, Mr Munjal has also been involved in Track II Diplomacy initiatives with a number of countries.

Social responsibilities: Mr. Munjal is the President of the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana, one of North India’s largest hospital and medical colleges. DMC&H also has a Nursing College and is now ranked the Number One Private Teaching hospital in North India according to the Week magazine.

Mr Munjal is also Founder, Serendipity Arts Foundation, a unique social project that promotes and incubates fine and performing arts; he is also President of the Ludhiana SanskritikSamagam, an organisation that promotes performing arts across North India.

Awards and accolades: Mr Munjal was selected by ‘India Today’ – India’s largest English newsmagazine, as one of the “Faces of the Millennium” for business. He was the 2016 winner of the JehangirGhandy Medal for Social and Industrial Peace conferred by XLRI, Jamshedpur, and has received a Doctorate of Literature degree from SRM University, Chennai. He was also conferred the
2016 Distinguished Fellowship Award by the Institute of Directors.

On the world stage, Mr Munjal has received GlobScot Award from the Scottish Government, and his name is inscribed on The Royal Society of Medicine’s Wall of Honour at London in recognition of his contribution to affordable healthcare.

Vaidya Nathan is a Resident faculty at the Indian School of Business, Mohali. Prior to joining ISB, he was an Assistant Professor in Residence at the School of Business, University of Connecticut and continues

to hold a Visiting Faculty position there. Before becoming an academic, he was an an Investment Banker with JPMorganChase Bank in Hong Kong, New York, and Singapore and has advised financial institutions and corporates in Asia-Pacific region on hedging and risk management. He specializes in Credit Derivative, Foreign Exchange and Fixed Income products. He has also advised corporates in Telecom, Media and Technology space on mergers and acquisitions, divestiture, acquisition financing, capital structure advisory, alternative investments, and debt restructuring. He later co-founded Quantum Phinance, of which he is currently the Chairman. He is on the advisory board of the Venture Capital initiative of SIDBI. He is also a Consultant with the World Bank.

He holds a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, and an MBA from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad. He is a certified Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) from the CFA Institute, Charlottesville, and a Financial Risk Manager (FRM) by the Global Association for Risk Professionals (GARP), New York. He holds a PhD in Finance and has done his Post Doctoral Fellowship from Leavey School of Business, Santa Clara University. He is the author of two books: Credit Risk Management for Indian Banks (Sage Publications, London) and Credit Derivatives (McGrawHill Education, New York).
